Land Acknowledgment-Patwin Tribes
Since time immemorial, the land on which our founder resides has been the home of Patwin people. Today, there are three federally-recognized Patwin tribes: Cachil Dehe Band of Wintun Indians of the Colusa Indian Community, Kletsel Dehe Band of Wintun Indians and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. The Patwin people have remained committed to the stewardship of this land over many centuries. It has been cherished and protected, as elders have instructed the young through generations.
A Therapist C’s founder is a 5th generation descendant of Enslaved Peoples; as such we find it both deeply significant and highly important to recognize that we maintain an ongoing solidarity with and commitment to intentions that lead to decolonization, including #LandBack for all the Indigenous peoples globally, especially those of Turtle Island. It’s important to name that most of the land that was entrusted to the First Nations Peoples was sometimes shared by choice, and more often, taken by force and/or coercion.
Historically many people of Afrikan descent, did not come to Turtle Island by choice. However, contextually, we recognize the nuanced reality that we are currently occupying Patwin Peoples home today. This is strongly linked to the historical realities impacting both groups, in particular. Therein lies the necessity of maintaining solidarity with Indigenous Peoples. Enslaved Peoples built the wealth and foundation of the United States, Melanated Immigrants developed and progressed the west coast of Turtle Island. We recognize that Historical Crafters of Turtle Island were promised land, that was not given, by those who falsified their authority to even make such offers.
It’s important to uplift the message that Turtle Island was never meant to be owned. Colonialism, historical and modern-day, has evolved to undermine returning full stewardship in many ways; land acknowledgments have become one of those methods and this must be named as such. To name these realities is not to diminish their significance; it is to expand recognition of multiple truths, each significant in their own way.
With all of this in mind, we remain in solidarity and hold high gratitude. We are honored to be here today on these traditional lands.
Our Unified Approach
Whether in business-to-business operations or provision of therapy services we commit to the journey that is enacting social change because we believe in the power of accountability. Whatever the work, whatever the scale, we will create standards of enrichment and view them as a source of interdependent growth and opportunity correlating with an individual obligation to enact change. We will aim to build an equitable, egalitarian environment that honors difference, builds empathy, and is committed to continuous learning. We will experience missteps, we will introspect, and we will view failures as opportunities to deepen the humanity within our self and others.
